Anthocyanins improve memory!

Anthocyanins and memory impairment

Polyphenols, among them anthocyanins thanks to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on neurons play a role in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive disorders, including Alzheimer's disease.

A study conducted in New Zealand involved 40 seniors (average age 77) with the first symptoms of memory impairment. The composition of their diet was monitored for 8 weeks. The group consuming a lot of anthocyanins ( berries, red wine, grapes), above 10 mg per day, were able to recall more words. Higher dietary anthocyanin content was also associated with a slower rate of forgetting. Those consuming less anthocyanin forgot 34% more than seniors with higher dietary anthocyanin levels.

Take care of your seniors diet, especially in the winter time, when fresh berries and dark fruits are not easy available. By introducing dried haskap berries into their diet you will provide them with plenty of anthocyanins. We recommend our BIOHASKAP Regeneration+ powder - it has as much as 80 mg of anthocyanins in one teaspoon! It could be added to yogurts, desserts, making it very fruity & vibrant in purple color.Or mixed with water to make haskap berry puree.
