Anthocyanins and free radicals
The most valuable bioactives contained in the haskap berry are polyphenols, more specifically anthocyanins - the red pigment visible in the juice, powder and other preserves. Numerous studies show that, due to their chemical structure, they have several times higher antioxidant potential than the best-known reference antioxidants, e.g. vitamin E, β-carotene or vitamin C (Lila M.A 2004, Miguel MG: 2011). A recent study in 2024 on oxidatively damaged cells with oxidised water showed that haskap berry extract reduced the release of interleukins (inflammatory factors) and the production of free radicals (Chong L 2024).
The antioxidant capacity of haskap assessed using multiple indicators (ORAC, DPPH, CAA, FCR) is considered to be one of the highest among other berries (blueberry, black raspberry, chokeberry). The organic haskap berry extract used in the production of the BioHASKAP mask achieved an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value of 28 950 μmol/100g.
We very much care of the anthocyanins during processing, which are very sensitive to heat treatment. Our powder is the only product on the market with a declared so high anthocyanin content. To preserve them fully, do not pour the powder into hot oatmeal or pour the juice into hot tea.
